Hobby Lobby & Winco Foods: Fact Or Fiction

Hobby Lobby & Winco Foods: Fact Or Fiction

We saw this today on Facebook...

"So...the old Albertson's building HAS BEEN PURCHASED, together with the building in which Rite Aid currently resides...and coming soon to our little town is WINCO. Yep. Haggen's might have to lower their prices to compete. Rite Aid expects to open the doors of their new store (being built in the JoAnn's center) in March, 2014. And, I told you a few weeks ago...the Dollar Store is taking over the rest of the strip mall where Hallmark/Terikyaki/Starbucks used to be...construction is in full swing. After they move, the spot they are in, plus the JOE'S building will become HOBBY LOBBY. Mount Vernon is growing a nice little tax base..." ~ Terry Springer

So, is this fact or fiction?
I called Mark Hulst, a Mount Vernon City Council member,  he confirmed that Rite Aid is building a new facility where the old KFC used to be. So Fact! He also knew that Hobby Lobby was going forward with their plans to occupy one of the spaces in the old Mall. I was able to confirm with Community & Economic Development Center that Hobby Lobby is going in to the old Joes space combined with the space that Dollar Tree clears up with their move to the center of the old mall. So Fact x2. :D

To Winco Or Not To Winco?
Mark informed me that Winco had dropped an application two years ago for plans they submitted for approval which did not involve the Albertsons store. So what about this rumor involving the old Albertsons? Well, the Community & Economic Development Center had no information available about this. However, Mark was able to share that Winco has made inquiries and is investigating the possibility of reusing the old Albertsons building. So to soon to be a fact?

Terry Springer shared the follwoing additional information about her source and background.

" I got MY information directly from the horse's mouth; i.e., workers who have been told by their managers that these changes are coming. Technically still a rumor, I suppose, but as you attested in this article, it's based in fact. When I worked as a Manager for a national food establishment at Cascade Mall, we were among the VERY FIRST to know that TJMaxx was being built because Mall Management had, in fact, notified us of their intent to do away with the food court area. Negotiations with us began for a new space MONTHS ahead of any PUBLIC declaration that TJMaxx was coming. We were also the ones answering customer questions such as, "Where is the new food court going to be?" (Answer: In-Line dining is the rage now...eateries all throughout the mall, instead of just one place to go for food) because the Mall Management was saying NOTHING by contractual agreement with TJMaxx. You see, until all legal requirements were met, the Mall Management -- not too unlike our government agencies -- could neither confirm nor deny the plan, even though they'd met with OUR owner and contacted OUR national offices. So, as you surmised, it may be too soon to cast the WINCO story in stone...but I have it on good authority -- from the people who usually know first." ~ Terry Springer

There you have it! :D
No matter how you look at it this is all very good news!
